Description
The Jagdpanzer: A Study of Germany's Self-Propelled Tank Destroyers. During World War II, the threat of enemy armour posed a significant challenge to all sides. In response, the German Army developed the 3.7cm anti-tank gun, but it soon became clear that towed weapons lacked firepower. To address this issue, more powerful guns were introduced in 1942 and 1943. As the war progressed, Panzerjäger units began to seek assistance from StuG-equipped assault artillery units on the Eastern Front. In late 1943, a dedicated Jagdpanzer unit was ordered, based on the chassis and running gear of the PzKpfw IV. This highly illustrated study explores the development of the Jagdpanzer, its many variants built on other German tank chassis, and how these units were organized and operated on the battlefield. Using archival material and after-action reports, Thomas Anderson provides a detailed account of the Jagdpanzer's history and operational experience.
