Description

Jack Absolute Flies Again by Richard Bean and Oliver Chris is a comedic take on Richard Brinsley Sheridan's classic play The Rivals. Set against the backdrop of World War II, this updated version follows Pilot Officer Jack Absolute as he navigates love, relationships, and social status in post-war England. When Jack returns home after a successful aerial mission, his advances towards Lydia Languish are met with unexpected demands for independence. As they engage in a battle of wits, their relationship becomes increasingly complicated. This fresh adaptation brings the original's witty dialogue and comedic charm to a new generation of theatre-goers. First performed at the National Theatre in London in 2022, this edition was published to coincide with its world premiere.
