Description
Czar Ivan IV: A Complex and Infamous Ruler This biography offers a detailed account of the life of Ivan IV, one of history's most notorious tyrants. Through extensive research based on original Russian sources, Robert Payne and Nikita Romanoff shed light on the harsh realities of Ivan's upbringing, his relationships with family members, and his reign as ruler. Ivan's reputation for brutality is well-documented, but few people understand the complexities behind his actions. The authors explore Ivan's obsession with religion, his predilection for mass murder, and the events that led to his infamous massacre of 30,000 citizens of Novgorod. Despite this dark legacy, Ivan also demonstrated remarkable intelligence as a ruler, supporting trade growth and expanding Russia's borders. A nuanced portrayal of one of history's most fascinating figures, this biography provides a thought-provoking insight into the life and times of Czar Ivan IV.
