Description

Isabella The Warrior Queen by Kirstin Downey is a groundbreaking biography that reimagines the life and legacy of one of history's most influential female rulers. In 1474, Isabella defied convention to seize control of Castile and León, forging a path that would shape the course of Spain's future. Through new scholarship, Downey sheds light on Isabella's remarkable story, from her early struggles against a hostile brother and husband to her pivotal role in sponsoring Christopher Columbus's voyage to the New World. This biography also explores the darker side of Isabella's reign, including the establishment of the Spanish Inquisition, which had far-reaching consequences for centuries to come. A fascinating and complex figure, Isabella's legacy has been all but forgotten by history. Downey's luminous biography brings this brilliant and fervent woman back into focus, revealing a leader who was both saintly and satanic in equal measure.
