Description

Guy Colwell's Inner City Romance is a groundbreaking collection of underground comics that tackle the harsh realities of life in the inner city. First published in the 1970s, this series explores themes of prison, black culture, ghetto life, the sex trade, and radical activism, offering a unflinching look at the struggles of those on the lowest rungs of society. The book brings together every issue of the series, alongside Colwell's highly detailed paintings from the time, providing a unique glimpse into the artist's vision. An accompanying text piece offers context for the material, adding depth and insight into the work. This collection is a powerful and thought-provoking look at a pivotal moment in American history, and a testament to the enduring power of underground comics to challenge and subvert societal norms.
