Description

Blame is often overlooked in favour of more popular notions like responsibility and punishment. However, this book argues that blame has an important place in moral philosophy. At its core, blame is closely tied to morality, and any consideration of moral principles must also involve condemnation of those who violate them. The author explores a range of questions about blame, including how it relates to the character of the person who commits a bad act, whether agents can be blamed for their own traits as well as their actions, and what constitutes blameworthiness. By examining these issues, the book develops a comprehensive theory of both blame and blameworthiness. This approach draws on the work of influential philosophers such as David Hume and P.F. Strawson, but also offers a fresh perspective on the concept of blame.
