Description
A new novel inspired by George Eliot's life and mind offers a fresh perspective on the author behind the iconic novels. Marian Evans, living in sin with a married man, George Henry Lewes, has begun writing fiction under the pseudonym George Eliot, sparking curiosity about her true identity. As Adam Bede's fame grows, so does the public's fascination with the enigmatic writer. The world falls in love with her, and she becomes the wise and great writer guiding people through a rapidly changing century. However, when Lewes dies, Evans faces the risk of shocking the world once again, threatening to upend the idyllic image she has built. This book explores two women's competing interpretations of Eliot as writer and woman, set against the backdrop of her life and work.
