Description

Impostures brings to English the celebrated work of Arabic literature in a groundbreaking new translation. Abū Zayd al-Sarūjī's adventures around the medieval Middle East are presented through the voices of an itinerant con man and a gullible eyewitness narrator, showcasing his brilliant wordplay and linguistic acrobatics.

Award-winning translator Michael Cooperson has transformed Arabic wordplay into English using fifty different registers, from literary styles to global varieties of English. This results in a dazzling display of translation that brings the spirit of this masterpiece into English.

A picaresque tale of escapades and linguistic tricks, Impostures is an engaging read for those interested in Arabic literature and language.
