Description
Colonel F. Izadseta's memoir is a rare and candid account of his experiences as a senior Iranian Air Force commander during the country's tumultuous 1970s and 1980s. Spanning several decades, his story chronicles the buildup of the Imperial Iranian Air Force in the 1960s and 1970s, its near destruction after the 1979 revolution, and his role in navigating the rocky political climate of the Iran-Iraq war. Izadseta recounts the challenges he faced as a commander, including international disapproval, domestic oppression, and imprisonment by his own government. Despite these difficulties, he and a handful of highly-trained officers found ways to defend and serve their country, surprising everyone involved. This memoir is a unique opportunity for readers to hear from a high-ranking Iranian officer who played a key role in the country's military history. The Iranian government has suppressed many stories like Izadseta's, making this book an important and valuable addition to the record of Iran's complex past.
