Description
Julie Foley and her family are forced to leave their mountain home in 1847 due to unpaid rental arrears. With Ireland struggling through the devastating effects of the potato famine, they receive a lifeline from a hedge schoolmaster and his wife, who offer them passage on a ship bound for North America. The journey aboard the 'Elizabeth and Sarah' is fraught with danger, but Julie has always dreamed of becoming a teacher. As she navigates the harsh conditions at sea, Fionn McDonagh's words may be her only solace. Upon arrival in Montreal, Julie must confront a new reality as she settles into domestic service to make ends meet. Despite the hardships, Julie finds ways to hold on to her aspirations and even discovers that even in the most unlikely of places, resilience can thrive.
