Description

Hungary A Short History by Norman Stone explores the country's complex and often tumultuous past. From its origins in traditional representative councils to the Magyar nationalists of the nineteenth century, Stone delves into the events that shaped Hungary's history. The post-World War I period saw the creation of a new state from the ruins of the Austro-Hungarian empire, but this era was marked by economic collapse and hyperinflation. The country's subsequent history has been marked by fascist dictatorships, Nazi occupation, and the crushing of independence in 1956. This concise history offers a unique perspective on Hungary's place within the post-Soviet bloc and nations forged from the fall of empires.
