Description
In 1942, Hazel Francis left her home in Wichita, Kansas for California, driven by a desire to contribute to the war effort. She found work at Douglas Aircraft, joining the ranks of "Rosie the Riveters" who helped construct bombers for the US military. After the war, Hazel struggled to find her place back in the Midwest, where traditional roles were expected of women. Instead, she chose to stay on the west coast and discovered a new sense of freedom in the bohemian town of Laguna Beach. There, she became an assistant to artist Hanson Radcliff, who lived under the shadow of a decades-old scandal. As Hazel settled into her new life, she found herself torn between pursuing her dreams and embracing the comforts of her adopted community. Her path was complicated by a growing connection with Jimmy, the hotel bartender, whose friendship offered a sense of belonging she had never known before.
