Description

It's 1917 and Captain Stanley Woolley joins an R.F.C. squadron whose pilots are facing the harsh reality that their war may drag on for years. To cope with the brutality of air warfare, they find comfort in distractions such as British nurses, eccentric Russian pilots, and even bureaucratic battles over rations.

However, these small comforts offer no lasting solace as the summer offensives intensify. The squadron's commander has a secret cocktail known as 'Hornet's Sting' that provides temporary relief, but it cannot mask the dangers of their job.

This novel is set against the backdrop of World War I and explores the human side of war through the experiences of its pilots.
