Description
Hardcover, 99 pages, Actes Sud. In Kinshasa's streets, a movement was born from the city's junkyards. A group of artists, including visual artist Eddy Ekete and others, came together to create "Ndaku ya la vie est belle", using ancestral clothing arts to stand against ecological disaster. Photographer Stéphan Gladieu captures their militant silhouettes and vibrant creations in a series of portraits. These photographs tell the story of creative talent passed on despite the attacks of consumerism. Introduced by novelist Wilfried N'Sondé, they highlight the artists' surrealist style and artistic practice. The result is a powerful portrait of a generation of artists fighting against waste management issues, particularly plastic pollution, in their country.
