Livy's History of Rome presents a vivid narrative of Rome's rise from its traditional foundation to 9 BC. The work is composed of 142 books, conventionally divided into pentads and decads, although only 1-10 and 21-45 are complete, with short summaries of all the rest except for Books 41 and 43-45. The fourth decad comprises two recognizable pentads, covering the Second Macedonian War and its aftermath, as well as the years from 191 to 180 when Rome crushed and shrank Antiochus' empire. This edition replaces the original Loeb edition by Evan T. Sage, offering a new interpretation of Livy's work.
