The London Underground's heritage train operation may seem surprising, but it was part of its original design. Built to main line gauge using steam traction, these early sections were an integral part of the world's first Underground railway network. Over the decades, special trains operated on parts of the system, offering passengers a unique experience. These trains ran not only in open-air outer sections, but also through cut-and-cover tunnel sections of central London.
