Description
Stripped of her name, Sonia's story is one of courage and resilience in the face of unimaginable hardship. With no basic training, equipment, or essentials, she joined a Soviet partisan brigade and fought against the Germans. After the war, Sonia's family spent three years in a Displaced Persons camp before reaching America. However, their life in their adopted land was marked by both tragedy and triumph. This book is co-authored by Holocaust scholar Fred Rosenbaum, who drew on a trove of touching family correspondence to tell Sonia's story. The letters, some written by Sonia herself, are published in the book's appendix, along with love poetry penned in the forest during 1943.
