Description
Heraclitus' Cosmic Fragments provides a comprehensive collection of his philosophical writings that focus on the world as a whole. Professor Kirk's edition offers a detailed study of these fragments, distinguishing genuine from spurious works and providing a selective apparatus, literal translation, and extended commentary to aid understanding. Kirk's approach is critical and objective, building on his earlier work in 1954, which marked a significant advance in the study of Presocratic thought. By examining the context in which each fragment is set, Kirk sheds light on the complexities of Heraclitus' philosophy and offers a nuanced interpretation of this influential thinker's ideas. This edition is based on the most reliable ancient testimonies and provides a valuable resource for scholars and anyone interested in exploring the philosophical heritage of ancient Greece.
