Description

Hebridean Sharker is the memoir of Tex Geddes, a hunter of basking sharks in the waters of the Minch during the 1950s. Using an adapted whaling harpoon, Geddes and his crew stalked these huge fish in perilous conditions, often targeting the liver for its valuable oil.

Geddes' life before the war was marked by adventure, including boxing, rumrunning to Newfoundland, and serving in the Special Forces as a knife-thrower and bayonet fencer. He combined these pursuits with hazardous activities such as shark hunting, lifeboat crewing, ring-net fishing, lobstering, deer-stalking, and salmon poaching.

After purchasing the tiny island of Soay, Geddes lived there with his wife Jeanne, continued to hunt sharks, and became the Laird. His story is a testament to a seagoing life in the Hebrides, full of adventures and vivid descriptions of life on the islands.
