Description
The Hebrew Gospel of Matthew according to a Primitive Hebrew Text presents a revised edition of George Howard's critical analysis of the Hebrew text of the Gospel of Matthew. This new edition includes an English translation and features an expanded revision of Howard's earlier work.
A significant aspect of this edition is its challenge to traditional views on the origins of the Gospel of Matthew, suggesting that it predates the fourteenth century. The book also explores the shared readings between the Hebrew text and ancient Christian writings, including Codex Sinaiticus and the Old Syriac version.
Howard's analysis delves into the language, artistic touches, and theology of the Hebrew Gospel, shedding light on the portraits of Jesus Christ and John the Baptist depicted in the document. These early forms of Jewish Christianity offer a unique perspective on the redemption of humanity and the role of Jesus as a divine solicitor and judge.
