Description

Guillaume de Palerne: A 12th Century French Verse Romance in English Translation This medieval romance tells the story of a young prince who is kidnapped by a werewolf at the age of four. Woven into the narrative is the parallel story of another prince, transformed into a werewolf as a toddler. The anonymous poet has skillfully woven humor, contemporary allusions and reworked traditional motifs into the engaging plot. The translation aims to provide a faithful guide to reading the original work, while also offering an introduction, notes and bibliography for further study. This edition presents a complex portrayal of identity, providing new insight into the medieval attitude towards individuality. For readers interested in exploring the medieval world through literature, this book offers a unique perspective on the human experience.
