Description
Greek Folk Songs by Joshua Barley This collection brings to an English-speaking audience for the first time in over a century the traditional Greek folk songs known as Dimotika Tragoudia. These songs, passed down through generations, offer a unique glimpse into old Greek life, covering themes such as love, travel, and loss. Written down at the start of the nineteenth century, they played a crucial role in shaping modern Greek language and literature. This new translation captures the lyricism of the original Greek texts in modern English verse, making these timeless songs accessible to readers everywhere. Foreword by A.E. Stallings adds context to this important work, which remains an integral part of modern Greece's cultural heritage.
