Description

Stanley Wells' Great Shakespeare Actors offers a unique perspective on the world of Shakespearian theatre, exploring the lives and careers of actors who have brought Shakespeare's plays to life over the centuries.

From Elizabethan times to our own, this book examines what it takes to be a great Shakespeare actor, and provides a concise look at each of the performers featured, including David Garrick, Sarah Siddons, Laurence Olivier, John Gielgud, and Kenneth Branagh. Wells draws on contemporary reviews, biographies, anecdotes, and his own memories of notable performances to create a succinct and actor-centred history of Shakespearian theatrical performance.

With its engaging blend of biography, criticism, and historical context, Great Shakespeare Actors is a fascinating read for anyone interested in the world of theatre and the art of performing Shakespeare's plays.
