Description
A century-spanning tale of self-discovery and determination, Great Circle follows Marian Graves as she charts her own course in life, no matter the cost. Raised by her dissolute uncle after being rescued from a sinking ocean liner, Marian finds an unlikely patron in a wealthy bootlegger who provides her with a plane and subsidizes her lessons.
The story unfolds through two narratives: Marian's own journey as she circumnavigates the globe by flying over the North and South Poles, and that of Hadley Baxter, an actress cast to play Marian in a film about her disappearance in Antarctica. As the two women's fates collide, their hunger for self-determination in vastly different geographies and times is revealed.
Meticulously researched and gloriously told, Great Circle is a monumental work of art that explores the complexities of female identity and the power of flight to transcend time and circumstance.
