Going Down to Morocco (Bajarse al moro) is a theatrical work that played a significant role in Spain's cultural landscape during the 1980s. Written by José Luis Alonso de Santos, it was a commercial and critical success when first staged in 1985 and later adapted into a film starring Antonio Banderas in 1989. The play explores the contrasting lifestyles of young people in 1980s Spain, set against a backdrop of radical social change. It features a free-spirited young drug smuggler who introduces a middle-class runaway to her new life with her cousin and boyfriend. The comedy is characterised by humour, creative use of contemporary slang, and intertextual film references. This edition includes Duncan Wheeler's translation of the original play, marked with footnotes to reflect changes made in the 2008 revival. Additionally, it features an unpublished interview conducted by Wheeler with Alonso de Santos in 2010.
