Description
The problem of evil has been a central challenge in Western philosophy for almost two thousand years. This concise survey examines the issue in the context of the philosophy of religion, seeking to reconcile belief in a just and loving God with the existence of evil and suffering in the world. Michael Peterson explores this complex topic through various types of argument from evil, including logical, probabilistic, evidential, and existential arguments. He considers both theistic and nontheistic perspectives, examining strategies for responding to these arguments and evaluating the merits of different approaches to understanding and addressing evil. Peterson's analysis provides a clear framework for understanding the problem of evil and its implications for religious belief, making this book an essential resource for anyone seeking to engage with this fundamental question in philosophy.
