Description

Clifford Guard's life was shaped by two countries and an ocean between them. Born in Swansea in 1923, he left poverty behind to forge a new future in America, but the Second World War drew him back into conflict.

As a US Army soldier, Guard formed strong bonds with his comrades, including those who nicknamed him 'Limey'. Together they fought against the Nazi Army in France, and later reflected on the experiences that defined their identities.

This memoir is a personal exploration of how war shaped Guard's life, and the lasting connections he made with fellow soldiers. A story of camaraderie, identity, and the power of shared experience.
