Description
General Boy: The Life of Lieutenant General Sir Frederick Browning
This biography tells the story of 'Boy' Browning, whose name is inextricably linked with Britain's airborne forces during World War II. Commissioned into the Grenadier Guards, Browning served on the Western Front and earned a DSO during the Battle of Cambrai.
Browning went on to have a distinguished military career, commanding two brigades before being appointed to command 1 Airborne Division in 1941. He also played a key role in the planning of Operation MARKET GARDEN, although the operation ultimately ended in failure. After the war, Browning served as Chief of Staff to Lord Mountbatten and later became Comptroller and Treasurer to Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip.
