Description
Francis Poulenc: A Life and Music of Wit and Charm Francis Poulenc's music is often underestimated due to its straightforward nature, but his stature as a composer is now widely recognised. This biography sheds new light on the life and work of this complex and sometimes contradictory artist. Poulenc's music is notable for its simplicity and directness, yet he was a distinguished melodist. His personal life, including his love affairs with working-class men and his sensitivity about his role in the wartime occupation of France, have been somewhat obscured. This book uses recently published documents to present a three-dimensional portrait of Poulenc, revealing a more nuanced understanding of this fascinating composer. Through its exploration of Poulenc's music and life, this biography offers a fresh and engaging insight into the world of 20th-century classical music.
