Description
Francis: A Life in Songs by Ann Wroe is a remarkable sequence of verse that tells the life of St Francis of Assisi. Combining troubadour musicality with a deep understanding of the moment, Wroe brings to light the complexities and beauty of this compelling spirit. St Francis was a poet, musician, and dancer, whose world was coloured by the music of the troubadours, birdsong, and the bells and chants of the Church. For Wroe, writing his life in songs is an excuse to record the many ways his presence still lingers around us, surprising us in chance encounters and persisting in the beauties of nature. Great spirits never leave us; their legacy echoes on and on. This beautiful book is a testament to the enduring power of St Francis's message, and Wroe's unique voice brings it to life in a way that is both deeply personal and universally relatable.
