Description
Susan Crean's memoir Finding Mr. Wong is a poignant exploration of her life and its connections to that of her long-time housekeeper, Mr. Wong. Born in 1928 as Wong Dong Wong, the Chinese Head Taxpayer hired by Crean's grandfather, Mr. Wong remained with the family for nearly four decades, until his retirement in 1965. This memoir weaves together Crean's memories of Mr. Wong and her discoveries about his life over the past 25 years. Through her narrative, Crean grapples with the complexities of socio-cultural dynamics, including those that cross racial and class boundaries. Her own experiences growing up in Vancouver's Chinatown are intertwined with Mr. Wong's story, offering a nuanced exploration of memory, identity, and the representation of social issues in literature and film.
