Description

Summer 1945 saw six of Germany's top nuclear scientists detained by Allied forces at a stately home in Cambridgeshire. Their tranquil summer was disrupted by news that the Americans had used an atomic bomb against Japan, shattering their peaceful existence. The scientists' attention turned to the ongoing war and thoughts of their homeland as they struggled with the implications of this new reality. A copy of Blithe Spirit provided a brief respite from their concerns, but ultimately, the scientists were left to grapple with the devastating consequences of the atomic bomb. Katherine Moar's play Farm Hall dramatises the true story recorded inside the bugged walls of the actual Farm Hall between July 1945 and January 1946.
