Description
Fanny & Alexander is a poignant play about growing up amidst the glamour and romance of 1900s Sweden. When their widowed mother remarries the local bishop, creative freedom and rigid orthodoxy clash, leading to a war between imagination and austerity. This magical study of childhood, family and love was adapted for the stage by Stephen Beresford from Ingmar Bergman's 1982 film masterpiece. The play premiered at The Old Vic, London in 2018, starring Penelope Wilton and directed by Max Webster. Stephen Beresford is a BAFTA award-winning screenwriter, known for his work on Pride and other plays including The Last of the Haussmans.
