Description
Evangelicalism in America chronicles the complex history and development of this distinctly American movement. From its origins to its present-day relationships with culture and politics, Balmer explores the social varieties and political implications of evangelicalism. The author delves into the paradoxes surrounding evangelicalism, including its legacy of concern for the poor and minorities, yet some contemporary evangelicals have repudiated their own heritage of compassion and sacrifice. This nuanced examination debunks cherished myths while prophetically speaking about the future contributions of evangelicalism to American life. Through this study, Balmer sheds light on the intricate relationships between evangelicalism, politics, and culture in America, providing a thought-provoking exploration of a movement that has left its indelible mark on the country's history.
