Description

Eugen Wiskovsky's photography oeuvre may be relatively small in scope, but it is notable for its originality and depth of idea. From the late 1920s and early 1930s, his New Objectivist works sought to find artistic value in everyday objects.

Through inventive lighting and cropping, Wiskovsky was able to isolate the elemental lines of these objects, stripping them of their worldly associations and imbuing them with potential metaphorical meanings. His dynamic diagonal compositions also showcase his radical approach to Czech Constructivism.

This book presents a selection of Wiskovsky's landscape work, accompanied by text from Vladim'r Birgus, a historian of photography. It offers a unique insight into the life and artistic vision of this influential Czech photographer.
