Description

England: The Biography is the most comprehensive account of the England cricket team ever published. Since 1877, the team has struggled to perform at its best, with amateur players choosing which matches to play and petty jealousies in the county game preventing many from achieving their full potential. It wasn't until the 1990s that central contracts were introduced, providing Team England with the best possible support from a growing backroom team. However, cricket is as much about leadership and teamwork as it is about structures. The success of captains like Joe Root, Alastair Cook, Mike Atherton, Mike Brearley, and Ray Illingworth has had a significant impact on the team's performance. As England prepares to play its 1000th Test, this book offers a brilliant insight into the ups and downs of English cricket history.
