Description
W.G. Sebald's remarkable body of work has left an indelible mark on literary circles, and this collection of interviews offers a profound insight into his unique voice.
Through conversations with Sebald between 1997 and the months leading up to his death in 2001, Lynne Sharon Schwartz presents a nuanced portrait of the writer, whose oeuvre explores themes of historical cruelty, memory, and dislocation. The Emergence of Memory also includes thoughtful reflections on almost all of Sebald's books, drawing connections to the lives of those who contributed to this volume.
Featuring contributions from a range of writers and thinkers, including Carole Angier, Joseph Cuomo, Ruth Franklin, Michael Hofmann, Arthur Lubow, Tim Parks, Michael Silverblatt, Charles Simic, and Eleanor Wachtel, this collection provides a unique window into Sebald's work and its enduring relevance.
