Description
The fascination with ancient Egyptian culture has long been a source of inspiration for Western sensibilities. This civilization, known to us since its earliest days, has evoked a deep respect in the West that few other cultures have received. At the heart of this fascination lies the enigmatic world of Egyptian religion, where strange and animal-headed deities inhabit a complex theological and cultural universe. The multiple gods of ancient Egypt pose a powerful symbolic challenge to scholars, who have long debated whether their diversity is compatible with the high level of cultural and ethical achievement of the civilization. In "El Uno y los Múltiples", Erik Hornung offers a rigorous examination of the Egyptian concept of divinity, analyzing its terminology and representation in ancient texts. By re-examining the primary sources, Hornung seeks to provide a nuanced understanding of this complex topic, one that has been at the center of egyptological debate for centuries.
