Description
El terror rojo Madrid, 1936 by Julius Ruiz is a thought-provoking exploration of the Spanish Civil War. Ruiz challenges traditional narratives surrounding the repression in the Republican forces after the July 18th military coup, instead arguing that there was a continuity between this initial arbitrary violence and the institutionalized persecution of enemies of the Republic from 1937. Through an exhaustive research process, Ruiz has uncovered new material that sheds light on this pivotal period in Spanish history. Drawing on sources and archives from Spain and the UK, El terror rojo offers a fresh perspective on a complex and often misunderstood topic. By examining the role of tribunals, the true culprits behind the terror, and the events at Paracuellos, Ruiz provides a nuanced understanding of this critical period in Spanish history.
