East Germany and the Escape: A Memoir
This memoir tells the story of Alfred Kienitz's life in East Germany before, during, and after World War II. Born into a family with six siblings, Alfred faced hardships from an early age. His parents' opposition to Hitler and the Nazi regime put them at odds with the local authorities.
As a young teenager, Alfred took on additional responsibilities when his older brothers were sent to war. He later became embroiled in the resistance movement, helping family members, friends, and strangers escape from Communist control. The memoir recounts Alfred's remarkable story of survival, courage, and resilience.
