Description
A photographic collection from Houston's Black community during the 1950s to early 1980s captures the essence of Rhythm and Blues music. Benny Joseph, under contract to Don Robey, photographed popular recording artists such as B.B. King, Mahalia Jackson, Buddy Ace, Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown, and Della Reese. Author Alan Govenar worked with Joseph to sift through thousands of photo negatives, identifying his most compelling images. The result is a book featuring over 120 unique black and white photographs. This collection is valuable for R&B enthusiasts and photography collectors seeking insight into the history of this genre.
