Description

Dust Egypt's Forgotten Architecture is a stunning photographic compilation of Egypt's abandoned palaces and grand buildings. Between 1860 and 1940, Cairo and other large cities in Egypt witnessed a major construction boom that gave birth to extraordinary structures. Today, many lie empty and neglected, rapidly succumbing to time and an ongoing population crisis. Photographer Xenia Nikolskaya began documenting these structures in 2006, gaining exceptional access to them at thirty locations across Egypt. This revised edition includes photographs from the first edition, as well as extra unseen images and new photographs taken by Nikolskaya between 2013 and 2021. The book also features previously unpublished essays by Heba Farid and Omar Nagati, offering a unique perspective on these architectural spaces. The result is a captivating visual journey into Egypt's recent past, filled with breathtaking buildings that evoke both the weight and impermanence of history.
