Description
Dough Portraits presents a unique and humorous series of photographs by Danish performance artist Søren Dahlgaard. Since 2008, he has created over 2,000 portraits of people from diverse backgrounds and settings around the world, with each participant 'co-creating' their own image through the process of kneading dough, posing, and interacting with an audience. The book showcases selected portraits from the main projects in the series, alongside photos and stills of the shoots as they took place. The resulting images are both humorous and ridiculous, yet also carry a darker sense of the uncanny and the sinister. By covering their faces with dough, the sitters' individual personalities shine through, revealing as much as they conceal. Through his work, Dahlgaard explores how we define ourselves and express our unique identities, particularly in an age where the covered face is contested politically and ethnically. This visually stunning book offers a fascinating glimpse into the artist's process and the people he has worked with over the years.
