Description

Donna Dennis Poet in Three Dimensions explores the work of architectural sculptor and installation artist Donna Dennis, known for her large-scale installations inspired by American vernacular architecture. Her art often transforms ordinary sites into repositories for memory and emotion, inviting reflection on life's transience. This book contextualises Dennis's career within contemporary art and the women's movements, tracing the evolution of her architectural sculpture over forty years. It features her recent gouaches and dioramas, presented for the first time, as well as a conversation with painter Rackstraw Downes that reveals her artistic influences through her own words. Insightful text by feminist art scholar Helaine Posner provides additional context to Dennis's work, shedding light on the sources and process behind her creations. A valuable addition to libraries of collectors and art historians interested in the architectural sculpture movement of the 1970s, this book offers a unique perspective on an important artist.
