Description
Do Ho Suh: Portal tells the story of an extraordinary sculpture made from the negative form of an ancient Korean gate. In 2006, artist Do Ho Suh began working on a project to cast the negative form of a traditional Korean gate in solid acrylic resin. The result was a nine-ton sculpture that would appear as if it was not there. The creation of Portal took nearly a decade and involved a complex fabrication process. Through color illustrations and texts, this book provides unique access to the typically veiled process of scanning, modelling, and constructing the sculpture. It offers insight into Suh's thinking on the role of both artist and museum in the 21st century, as well as the relationship between East and West. This volume is a detailed account of the making of Portal, providing a unique perspective on the artistic process and its significance.
