Description
Cameron Awkward-Rich's second collection of poems, Dispatch, is a powerful exploration of American violence and its impact on personal and collective flourishing. Set against the backdrop of a media environment that pervades even our most intimate spaces, these poems examine racial/gendered violence in the US from the 19th century to the present day. Through their work, Awkward-Rich seeks to reckon with and withstand the news of such violence, asking how one can pay attention without being overwhelmed by perpetual bad news. This is a book that asks difficult questions about the nature of justice, identity, and the ways in which we respond to trauma. With its bracing voice and dazzling poetic possibilities, Dispatch is a significant contribution to contemporary poetry, offering a nuanced exploration of the complexities of American life.
