Description
Digenis Akritas: A Tale of Two Worlds In 10th-century Byzantium, a remarkable prince was born to a union between a Christian woman and an Arab Emir. This half-breed, known as Basil, the Two-Blood Border Lord, would go on to become a prodigy of valor, possessing strength in both hunting and battle. His story is one of conversion, loyalty, and love, set against the backdrop of a bygone era. The poem in English verse translation brings this epic romance to life, filled with humor, fairytale, and moving religious devotion. The translator has carefully collated all known texts, supported by commentary, bibliography, and map, offering a unique glimpse into an urbane vanished civilization. This collection is a fascinating exploration of the complexities of identity and culture, set against the rich tapestry of Byzantine history.
