Description

During the first day of Spain's state of alarm to combat the coronavirus, a handwritten sign appeared in a local bakery: "One person inside the shop. For everyone's good. Thanks." The small shop had quickly adapted to the new situation. I too reacted swiftly - and so did many others - and sensed that there would be comics and stories worth sharing amidst the chaos. On the second day, I began posting a daily comic strip on Instagram. A friend commented over the phone: "Will you have enough pencils?" Just days earlier, on March 6th, I had released my album Las comarcales in Madrid. The following week, concerts were suspended in Barcelona and Zaragoza. Over the next seventy-two days, I developed the stories of Días de Alarma using a style that balanced humour, irony, and emotion. The comic strip was an instant response to the crisis. I aimed for a tone that was neither too rough nor too sarcastic, but rather one that conveyed moments both humorous and heart-wrenching. The result is a collection of comics that reflect the uncertainty and resilience of those living through this period. Días de Alarma is a personal account of my experience during the state of alarm, told through comics and stories.
