Description

Deliberative Democracy by Ian O'Flynn explores how this widely discussed theory of democracy has developed over recent decades. The author examines the concept's evolution, family disagreements, and criticisms, including the challenge that ordinary people lack motivation for meaningful deliberation. O'Flynn considers the example of deliberative polls and citizens' assemblies, critically assessing their potential within a broader democratic system. He also explores the implications of deliberative democracy for multicultural and multi-ethnic societies before turning to the prospects for global deliberative democracy. This book is an essential read for those interested in democratic theory and seeking more rational decision-making in an age of populist passion.
