Description
Charles François Daubigny was a pioneer of modern landscape painting and an important precursor of French Impressionism. His atmospheric views of the river Oise are still celebrated today for their natural beauty. Despite his commercial success, Daubigny's broad, sketch-like handling and unembellished view of nature were often criticized by his contemporaries. However, it was precisely this frank naturalism that inspired a new generation of artists, including Claude Monet and Vincent van Gogh. This book explores the artistic dialogue between Daubigny and these two influential artists, spanning thirty years from the early 1860s to the end of Van Gogh's short life.
